Electronic Glasses Finding Their Way Into This Era

A distance meter adjusts the glycerine-based lenses in just 14 milliseconds.

T
hey're not very pretty, but prototype eyeglasses from University of Utah scientists could make progressive lenses obsolete for older people. Using electronically activated lenses and infrared distance meters, they can focus automatically on whatever you're looking at, whether it's far or close up. Once perfected, the device could eliminate the need for multiple pairs of reading or driving glasses for folks with presbyopia or farsightedness.

Age-related far- or nearsightedness happens when the lenses in your eyes can no longer change focus between objects. As a result, many people between their 40s and 50s have to wear progressive-lens eyeglasses divided into small focal zones depending on object distance. One company called Deep Optics has pursued an auto-focusing solution using see-through liquid-crystal lenses, but is still working on a practical prototype. Google is also working on an auto-focus contact lens with Novartis, but recently said that it wouldn't be testing one anytime soon.

Om Puri Is No More ....... RIP

Om Puri is No More Amongst Us Sadly , The Poor Actor Died At the Age of 66 Sources Say !
Om Puri, who acted in both mainstream and art films, was known for his gritty performances in a number of landmark Indian films in the 1980s.
He also appeared in a number of British films, including a cameo in Richard Attenborough's epic on Mahatma Gandhi.
A versatile actor, Puri was known for his roles in Indian, Pakistani, British and Hollywood films. He was awarded an honorary OBE for his contribution to the British film industry in 2004.

Puri was one of India's truly successful crossover actors, doing films with stars such as Jack Nicholson and Tom Hanks, the BBC's Soutik Biswas said.
His roles in Govind Nihalani's Aakrosh as a tribal man falsely accused of murder and a policeman in Ardh Satya beaten back by the system remain among the finest performances on Indian screen, Biswas added.
Puri is survived by his wife Nandita Puri, who he married in 1993, and their son Ishaan.

The actor is being mourned in neighbouring Pakistan with newspapers reporting prominently on his death.
He had recently spoken out against the ban imposed by India on Pakistani actors working in Bollywood films, following tensions over Kashmir.

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, actors fraternity, Pakistan Hindu Council and people in general have paid rich tributes on Friday to the Bollywood actor OmPuri actor, who passed away in Mumbai, for his efforts for the normalisation of Indo-Pak ties.

All Pakistani news channels flashed the news of OmPuri's death while paying tribute to his acting prowess. #OmPuri remained top trend on Pakistani twitter throughout the day with people outpoured their love for the late actor.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said OmPuri made significant contribution in linking the cultural ties between India and Pakistan." Om Puri refused to succumb to the pressure of anti-peace lobbies," Mr. Sharif said.

Faraday Future's first car secures over 64,000 reservations

FF-91
EV-maker Faraday Future says it has received 64,124 reservations for the car it unveiled at CES within 36 hours of the event. Sure, that's nowhere near the 232,000 pre-orders Tesla got for Model 3 in a day, but we're talking about company that has yet to release a product -- in fact, the model it presented at CES (an SUV called the FF 91) is its first car ever. Sadly, Faraday Future didn't say how many paid $5,000 for priority reservation and how many opted for the free standard option. That means we also can't say if it racked up enough money to keep going.

The electric-automaker was reportedly plagued by all kinds of money trouble last year, you see, from bills and rent to lawsuits. Things were so bad, various sources said it could shutter by February 2017 if it fails to raise funds after CES. The company would have made over $320 million if all 64,124 slots chose the priority option, but we somehow doubt everyone paid up, even if it is refundable. As Electrek said, the free reservation tier makes it hard to gauge how many people are actually interested in buying and how many merely signed up to keep an eye on new updates.
One thing's clear, though: FF 91 successfully piqued people's curiosity. Whether that will translate to sales, who knows. The flashy electric SUV is an all-wheel drive, has a 378-mile range and can go from 0 to 60 in 2.39. Faraday Future hasn't revealed how much one would cost you yet, but it plans to start production in 2018.

This Is Why You Should Change The Frequency Of Your Music To 432 Hz

“If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration.” – Nikola Tesla

“What we have called matter is energy, whose vibration has been so lowered as to be perceptible to the senses. There is no matter.” – Albert Einstein

Tesla said it. Einstein agreed. Science proved it. It is a known fact that everything—including our own bodies—is made up of energy vibrating at different frequencies. That being said, it seems logical to wonder, can sound frequencies affect us? It would appear that this is the case. Frequencies affect frequencies, much like mixing ingredients with other ingredients affects the overall flavour of a meal. The way frequencies affect the physical world has been demonstrated through various experiments, such as the science of Cymatics and water memory.

Cymatics illustrate that when sound frequencies move through a particular medium such as water, air, or sand, they directly alter the vibration of matter. Below are pictures demonstrating how particles adjust to different frequencies.

Water memory also illustrates how our own intentions may even alter the material world. This has been demonstrated by Dr. Masaru Emoto, who has performed studies showing how simple intentions through sound, emotions, and thoughts can dramatically shape the way water crystallizes.

MUSIC FREQUENCY
With this concept in mind, let us bring our attention to the frequency of the music we listen to. Most music worldwide has been tuned to A=440 Hz since the International Standards Organization (ISO) promoted it in 1953. However, when looking at the vibratory nature of the universe, it’s possible that this pitch is disharmonious with the natural resonance of nature and may generate negative effects on human behaviour and consciousness.
Some theories (although unproven) even suggest that the Nazi regime had been in favor of adopting this pitch as standard after conducting scientific research to determine which range of frequencies best induce fear and aggression. Whether or not the conspiracy is factual, interesting studies have pointed towards the benefits of tuning music to A=432 Hz instead.

MATHEMATICS OF THE UNIVERSE
432 Hz is said to be mathematically consistent with the patterns of the universe. It is said that 432 Hz vibrates with the universe’s golden mean PHI and unifies the properties of light, time, space, matter, gravity and magnetism with biology, the DNA code, and consciousness. When our atoms and DNA start to resonate in harmony with the spiralling pattern of nature, our sense of connection to nature is said to be magnified. The number 432 is also reflected in ratios of the sun, Earth, and moon, as well as the precession of the equinoxes, the Great Pyramid of Egypt, Stonehenge, and the Sri Yantra, among many other sacred sites.
“From my own observations, some of the harmonic overtone partials of A=432hz 12T5 appear to line up to natural patterns and also the resonance of solitons. Solitons need a specific range to form into the realm of density and span from the micro to the macro cosmos. Solitons are not only found in water mechanics, but also in the ion-acoustic breath between electrons and protons.” – Brian T. Collins

AirBar gives your MacBook Air a touchscreen for $99

Sure, the new MacBook Pro has that fancy Touch Bar, but some Apple laptop owners long for a machine with a full touchscreen display. A company called AirBar already gave the PC faithful a USB accessory that gives a 15.6-inch screen a more tactile function and now at CES it's doing the same for the 13.3-inch MacBook Air. The company calls the device "plug-and-touch," which means you don't have to worry about futzing with drivers before you can use the gadget.

The installation process involves putting a couple magnets on the laptop to hold the AirBar in place. Once that's done, all you have to do it plug it into a USB port and the device emits a light field over the display to pick up you touch navigation, pinch-to-zoom and scrolling gestures. Of course, you'll have to remove it to completely close your laptop, but the addition of touch with a relatively painless install process makes a solid case for the add-on.

LG Display's 65-inch OLED prototype screen doesn't need speakers

LG Display's best prototypes here at CES 2017 were definitely its unusual 65-inch OLED Ultra HD panels with speakers integrated right into the display itself. How does that work? It's all thanks to the slender nature of OLED tech, meaning an organic LED screen can act as a membrane for audio. A pair of tiny speaker drivers then deliver vibrations into the huge OLED screen, producing sound. (The entire screen itself vibrates while doing so.)
According to the company, these "Crystal Sound" displays should make for a more immersive audio experience, with sound coming directly from the image you're watching, not from the sides or from underneath. In reality, the sound produced was a bit too tinny and weak; there's obviously not much depth to work with when your speaker membrane is a very narrow OLED screen. The effect of the sound coming directly from within the screen is a cool one -- it just needs a bit more oomph. At least it's something for the prototype engineers to work on in time for CES 2018.
Update: It looks like Sony had similar ideas. Its new Bravia OLED TV has a similar audio solution that it's calling "Acoustic Surface." Great minds, eh?

Pool-Jumping Daredevil Needs New Feet After Gruesome Accident

8booth is a daredevil whose feats have made him a staple on YouTube and Instagram. He jumps off of tall things. He usually lands in wet things.
Here he is almost breaking every bone in his body after leaping off a sharp outcropping above the Pacific. And here he is again jumping into a swimming pool from a rooftop. Being inches away from completely ruining his life at all times is what makes 8booth’s stunts compelling. Usually he’s pretty good at the thing he does.
But before the New Year, 8booth found a high thing and a wet thing and made the journey from one to the other the wrongest wrong way possible that didn’t involve immediate death. The video’s caption is “Both feet shattered as well as heals. [sic] Help me.”

Let that serve as your warning that the below footage is definitely graphic—particularly at the end when we see the mangled remains of this man’s feet
Gizmodo wishes you a speedy recovery 8booth, and we’ll leave you with these words of advice:

I wish you would step back from that ledge my friend,
You could cut ties with all the lies, that you’ve been living in,
And if you do not want to see me again, I would understand.
I would understand,
The angry boy, a bit too insane,
Icing over a secret pain,
You know you don’t belong,
You’re the first to fight, You’re way too loud,
You’re the flash of light, On a burial shroud,
I know something’s wrong,
Well everyone I know has got a reason, To say, put the past away,
I wish you would step back from that ledge my friend,
You could cut ties with all the lies, That you’ve been living in,
And if you do not want to see me again, I would understand,
I would understand.
Well he’s on the table, And he’s gone to code,
And I do not think anyone knows,
What they are doing here,
And your friends have left, You’ve been dismissed,
I never thought it would come to this, And I, I want you to know,
Everyone’s got to face down the demons,
Maybe today, We can put the past away,
I wish you would step back from that ledge my friend,
You could cut ties with all the lies, that you’ve been living in,
And if you do not want to see me again, I would understand,
I would understand,
I would understand...
Can you put the past away, I wish you would step back from that ledge myfriend,
I would understand
Get well soon, 8booth.

Doctors: Seriously, Stop Sticking Q-Tips In Your Ears

Don't Do This!
I tingle just thinking about the full-body sensation accompanying a Q-tip exploring the inside of my ear canal. But the guilt-ridden pleasure is always followed by a nagging mother whisper: “don’t put anything smaller than your elbow into your ear!” Well, scientists have decided to amplify that whisper.
The American Academy of Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery Foundation published an updated set of guidelines on managing ear gunk today in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. The recommendations don’t contain many surprises, but they’ll definitely give you another reason to worry—screw around inside your ears too much and you might give yourself earwax impaction, which is basically a stuffy nose for your ear.
Earwax, also known as cerumen, is essentially the snot that serves to grease up the inside of your ears and trap any invading dirt particles. Your body normally deals with earwax buildups just fine, by circulating old wax out of the ear where it crusts up on its own, and by growing more skin cells, according to the report. If that process breaks down, though, earwax might build up in your ears, making it difficult to hear or resulting in a feeling of stuffiness. Around 10 percent of children and five percent of adults suffer from this problem, with numbers higher in older or developmentally-delayed folks. New data on cerumen impaction motivated the release of new recommendations for how to deal with it.
The report can be summarized as follows:
  • Don’t clean your ears too much.
  • Don’t put small things like Q-tips into your ear. Sorry, I know, but Q-tips can push earwax further inside your head, making impaction worse or irritating the inside of your ear.
  • Call a doctor if you have symptoms like ear pain, hearing loss or stuffy-headedness that might not be from earwax.
  • If you’re suffering from earwax buildup, ask your doctor about safe ways to treat it.
And don’t even try ear candling, an alternative medicine procedure that involves lighting a candle over your ear to try and draw the wax out. It doesn’t make any sense and you’ll probably just get candle wax in your ears.
Your biggest takeaway should be that the earwax belongs inside your ears, and if you do end up with earwax impaction, call your doctor who can remove the wax manually.

Donald Trump: New attack on US intelligence over Russia hacking

US President-elect Donald Trump has made a fresh assault on America's intelligence community.
He said on Twitter that an intelligence briefing he was due to receive on alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election - which is said to have benefited Mr Trump - had been delayed.
"Perhaps more time needed to build a case. Very strange!" he wrote.
But US intelligence officials insisted there had been no delay in the briefing schedule.
Several US agencies including the FBI and the CIA believe Russia directed hacks against the Democratic Party and the campaign of its presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, releasing embarrassing information through Wikileaks and other outlets to help Mr Trump win the election.
Mr Trump initially dismissed the claims as "ridiculous" but subsequently said he would meet US intelligence chiefs to be "updated on the facts of this situation".
In another development, Mr Trump's pick for secretary of state, Rex Tillerson, has agreed he will cut all ties with Exxon Mobil and comply with conflict-of-interest requirements.

Ethics row

Meanwhile, Republicans have ditched a plan to gut the independent body that investigates political misconduct after a backlash.
The lawmakers' surprise vote to strip the Office of Congressional Ethics of its independence prompted public uproar and a dressing down from Mr Trump on Twitter.
The secretive move, which overshadowed the first day of the 115th Congress, was reversed in an emergency meeting.
The ethics body was set up in 2008 following a slew of scandals that resulted in several House lawmakers being jailed.
Mr Trump made cleaning up corruption in Washington a key theme of his campaign.
Republican Speaker of the House Paul Ryan had argued unsuccessfully against the rule change, which was adopted on Monday night in a closed-door meeting.

Busy day

As the news spread, internet searches for "who is my representative" rocketed, according to Google Trends.
House Republicans called an emergency meeting and abruptly voted to undo the change.
Mr Ryan - who was re-elected by fellow lawmakers on Tuesday as House Speaker - had urged his party to seek bipartisan support and to wait to push for the change later.
Mr Trump's remarks about US intelligence agencies and the ethics committee came on a busy day for the president-elect's Twitter account.
He also warned North Korea about its nuclear ambitions, attacked Obamacare costs and sparked a row with General Motors over its manufacturing operation in Mexico, which the car firm disputes
